The colder months might be coming to a close, but there’s still some time to get outside and enjoy the colder weather! Luckily, Caledon has the perfect landscape for all types of outdoor activities. It’s close to home yet feels like it’s still up north – talk about a win-win! Plus, it’s still a growing town with a ton of open space, trails, and lodges. So, let’s get outside these next few weeks and rediscover Caledon while it’s still a little cool!

Treat Yourself to a Staycation

Caledon has a ton of unique and cottage-like destinations, so you don’t have to travel far to have a good time! Sometimes a staycation is all you need – there’s no time wasted on lengthy travel as there are beautiful locations only a short drive away, making it feel like a new experience. 

First, we have Alabaster Acres! This one is for the adventurous couple or family who wants to have some fun glamping, even in the winter and spring! You’ll live like a camping rockstar, sleeping in lavish heated tents surrounded by beautiful forests. This one looks like a fairytale!

There is also the historic Millcroft Inn and Spa, situated right next to a gorgeous riverside waterfall (the restaurant even faces it). This option is definitely for those looking to truly pamper themselves.

Other destinations include Forks of the Credit Inn and the Inn on the Moraine, where you and your family can really enjoy the outdoors with beautiful trails right outside the door. All of these locations make for the perfect winter getaway!

Hit the Trails

Speaking of beautiful trails, Caledon is filled with them! And most are maintained all season, not only in the warmer months. There are many activities to do, including snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, horseback riding, kick sledding for the kids (which is like a chair on skis), and even biking on the groomed trails with Fat Tire Bikes that are designed for slush and mud. You can rent most of this equipment at all of Caledon’s conservation areas, so make sure to take advantage!

The best local trails and parks for this time of year are Forks of the Credit Conservation Area for fun and challenging hikes, Teen Ranch for horseback riding, Albion Hills Conservation Area for 26km of bikeable trails, and Terra Cotta Conservation Area for skiing. If you really want to explore, Caledon also has two rail trails, the Caledon Trailway and the Elora Cataract Trailway, which follow the abandoned tracks that once connected the nearby towns.

Get Familiar with the Local Eateries

What are fun outdoor activities without the satisfying food indulgence afterward! Caledon has some delicious local restaurants that are unique and have a perfect small-town charm. Most of Caledon’s restaurants are located in historically preserved buildings, giving it a cozy and memorable atmosphere. Menus are always changing, so make sure to visit places more than once so you can try different items at each restaurant.

A good restaurant to try is Spirit Tree Estate Cidery, where they have homemade cider and wood-fired pizza – talk about the perfect combo for the cold! There’s also The Cheltenham General Store’s Café which is located in a building that dates back to 1887. Or there is, of course, Headwaters Restaurant that looks over a waterfall at the Millcroft Inn that we mentioned earlier! There are really so many different options to choose from – you’ll have to go explore for yourself!
